He told me that I could have the windshield if I would take the engine block and cruisomatic off of his hands. What I really wanted wat the original late 62/63 Windshield that he had. Luckily about a year earlier I ran into a guy who had a bunch of old T-bird parts under a tarp that he wanted to get rid of. I was more than ticked off when I got the report on that. My 63 engine had a cracked cylinder head and we didn't know it until we pulled the engine apart and sent it in for rebuilding. Others may certainly have other reasonable advice or suggestions contrary to mine. There's really very little middle ground when you have questionable cracks in the block. If you're already in position financially for a complete rebuild, then have at. If she gives up, park it till your ready for the rebuild. In the meantime, enjoy local driving while you keep an eye on temperature guage and coolant levels. Plan on and budget for a complete rebuild.

keep your eye open and buy the cheapest 390 you can find that is solid, uncracked, and unfused. My advice is, based on only slight weepage from three plugs as you say. On the other hand, it may require a complete rebuild (journal grind, cylinder boring, bearings replacement, etc.) of the short block before you can simply add your known components. It could be a matter of simply putting your stuff on the long block and it may run. Buying a salvage yard motor (or any used motor for that matter) is a "pig-in-a-poke" at best, cuz you dont know FOR SURE what you're getting till you (or your experienced mechanic) actually tears it down and inspects/measures wear and condition. Various model years have differnt components for such things as emmisions, ignitions, carburetion, etc., BUT you (or your experienced mechanic) should be able to transplant all your components onto later model blocks.Ĥ. I dont know WHEN 390 production ended, but it went at least to '64 model vehicles.ģ.

mounting locations and dimensions for the cross member and transmissions.Ģ. As far as I know, all 390's have the same engine block FITMENT. Larry, I'm gonna answer your pm here since it is similar to what you have posted here.ġ.
